We offer the finest Japanese style planes. Those planes are not fully setup and ready to use, buyers are expected to follow traditional Japanese-style setup processes before use.
Those planes are urade-fuyo (裏出不要), meaning that they do not have a hollow on the back of the blade. This require a high out-of-factory flatness of the blade back, which you can always expect from Zen-Wu. Uradefuyo blades, though rare, can be sharpened like any other western plane blades, taking out the guess work of hammering your planes blades down the road.
The blade is made using our ZW-V1 steel, dovetail laminated into a titanium blade body. ZW-V1 features outstanding edge retention of powder metallic steels while remaining keen in kireaji (切れ味, which means cutting experience) and togiaji (研ぎ味, which mean sharpening experience).
The dai (台), aka the sole, is made from Japanese white oak, naturally seasoned, harvested and made in Japan.
We generally recommend a 65mm for your first plane and/or an all-around plane.
60mm and 70mm expected to be in stock in June.
