The ZenSharp is a precision-milled aluminum base that accepts interchangeable sharpening cards, held in place magnetically. Assembled, it holds a flatness tolerance of 0.015mm (~1/2 thou). Swap cards to change grit without moving the tool or breaking a setup, faster and cleaner than managing a stack of water stones at the bench.
ZenSharp cuts quickly like a water stone, and needs no flattening or soaking like a diamond stone. A light spray of water or glass cleaner is enough lubrication, and the cards never need to be peeled off with heat the way sheet-style diamond plates do.

For most woodworking, the fine card is sufficient to finish an edge. It will already leave a mirror polish. The ultra-fine card is for sushi knives and other cases where the absolute finest finish matters.
A single diamond card lasts for hundreds of sharpenings while staying flat and true. We use the same cards at the factory on our chisels and plane irons.
A note on technique: the diamond layer sits on a PET sheet bonded to a thin steel backing. If a blade corner digs into one spot under heavy pressure, it can damage the PET. Keep full lateral contact across the card when sharpening. No single-point grinding. For why we use a soft substrate rather than steel, see On Soft Substrates.
Patented. A 3D-printable storage box is available here.
Each card is rated by its micron, the size of the particle that actually cuts. You can see where the ZenSharp grades sit among every other sharpening abrasive, on one micron scale, on the Grit Table.
